Gameplay

The player starts out in their own house, which is surrounded by a fence. The player's goal is to get to the house next door, which is full of traps. The playing experience of the game is viewed from a first-person viewpoint. The player can interact with their environment by picking up objects, opening doors, and examining them. The player can also walk around, look over ledges, and crouch. The player can shine their flashlight to see in the dark, and can find tools such as a wrench to remove the traps. They can also craft items by finding materials and combining them. The player must be careful not to wake their neighbor, otherwise they will be caught. Gameplay consists of sneaking into the neighbor's house, performing tasks while avoiding detection, and finally getting out of the house. The player is given a variety of tools for use in order to complete their tasks and avoid detection: a flashlight, an electric saw, and a gun. The player is also given the ability to pick up objects in a house and use them to distract, or even kill, the neighbor. The game's levels are procedurally generated, meaning that the player never knows what the layout of each house will be.

Graphics

The graphics are very simplistic and pixelated, but this doesn't detract from the game. The game has a pixelated, 'retro' look to it. Graphics are comprised of dark shadows and a realistic color palette. Non-playable characters are not in the game and the player is the only one shown on screen.

Replayability

The game has some replayability because of the randomized nature of the neighbor's house. Hello Neighbor will be a difficult game to master, and will likely take a few hours to complete.
